New Vocation

Jack entered the liquor store.  It was buzzing with activity, and he wasn't really sure what his approach should be.  He was wearing an employee uniform in the hopes that he'd gotten the job, but the place was so busy he didn't know exactly who to approach.  He started worming his way deeper into the store.

"Hey, excuse me!" said a customer.  "Do you have cases of this Lacle beer?"

"Uh, Lacle beer, let's see..." Jack murmured, "let me go check in ba-"

"Ah, there you are!" interrupted a female employee.  She directed the customer to a stack of yellow beer before turning to Jack and saying, "Congratulations, you got the job!"

   "Oh, great, thanks!" smiled Jack.

"Now, do you work anywhere else part-time?" said the lady.

   "Yes, I work at-"

"Oh, dear, it's just that sometimes it becomes hard to coordinate, you see," said the lady, frowning slightly.

"Oh, don't worry, it's very flexible," reassured Jack.  "I can cut back there, if need be."

"Good, good," smiled the lady.  "Let's see, well need you on call in, oh...let's see," she said as she began to walk away.

"Uh, when the next, um, cycle starts?" said Jack.

"Yes, yes," she said loudly over the buzzing crowd.

An older female employee who was perched on top of a ladder yelled, "Sunday, Sunday, we'll see you on, uh, Sunday!"

With that, Jack left.  He made his way through the twilight parking lot towards the fenced off water park on the other side.  He opened the gate and waded into a shallow pool of water.  He started herding small, floating balls toward the edge of the pool where there was a ceramic ledge underneath a canopy.  On the side of the ledge there was a groove that funneled the balls upward and into the next pool on the terrace.

"This would be a nice job," thought Jack, picturing the lifeguard who kept the floating balls moving.  His enthusiasm was dampened when he pictured himself in his bathing suit.
