The large construction started rolling shakily across the small classroom. Almost immediately it struck a desk and collapsed in a pile of wood and wheels, bringing the young riders along with it. A teacher ran over to a girl and felt around for her pulse.
"I think she's dead," said the teacher grimly. Jack dashed to the phone and dialed 911.
"Hello?" said a bored voice on the other end of the line.
"I need someone over at Roody," said a panicked Jack.
"Ok," replied the operator. There was a silence.
"Roody!" repeated Jack.
"Ok, sir," said the operator tiredly. Jack hung up the phone and ran out of the small school building into the night air to meet the police. They were already out of their squad cars and advancing on the building next to Roody. Upon seeing Jack running towards them, they pulled their guns and trained them on Jack, who threw up his hands and fell to the ground in alarm.
"The girl is over here, at the school!" shouted Jack.
"This better not be a trick," said a policeman.
"No, no, it's real!"
"Where is the body?" asked another.
Jack led the police into the small, crowded corridors of the school. When they reached the room where the girl had fallen, they were informed by a teacher that her body had been taken to another room. Jack and the police searched the three bottom floors before they found help from a woman.
"Do you know where the body is?"
"Try nunnery 3," replied the woman. "It's on the fourth floor. I'll unlock it for you."
The woman led the way upstairs and unlocked an archaic door. The fourth floor was old and dusty, for it had not been used in some time. Finally, they entered a classroom and found the girl's body lying across an ancient desk. The police loaded her into an old-fashioned, open air elevator, even though it was already overcrowded with people. One policeman offered Jack his place on the elevator, and Jack crammed into the small, unoccupied area in front. The doors closed, the elevator began descending, and Jack wished it would hurry for the sake of Petunia and The Father, who were working hard to contain their claustrophobia.
