Forgetting Father

Jack and Vell got out of the vehicle and headed towards the large double doors of the complex.  As they continued the conversation from the car, Jack felt a little nervous.

"Of course I remember your parents' names," he said defensively.  As this was a lie, he desperately sifted through his memory for the two names.  He was pretty sure her father's name began with a D.  "Your dad's name is Doug!"

"No, it's not," Vell replied harshly.  "How can you even consider yourself a friend when you don't even know my parent's names?!"  After a brief pause, she said, "My dad's name is Doug."

"That's what I said..." Jack mumbled.
